Divorce

Each case is different, but many Texas divorces follow similar steps:

  1. Petition for divorce
  2. Temporary orders (if necessary)
  3. Discovery of evidence
  4. Settlement negotiations/mediation
  5. Trial (if no settlement could be reached)

Before a final order for divorce can be entered with the court, there is a mandatory “cooling off” period of 60 days, following filing the petition for divorce. Once that period has passed, the divorce process can continue.
